Spee-D Channel FAQs
Common questions about the NDS Spee-D Channel drain system
The patented flying buttress design features angled support ribs that extend outward from the channel walls. When concrete is poured around the channel, these ribs create superior mechanical anchoring that prevents the channel from shifting or floating during installation. This design also provides exceptional sidewall strength while keeping the channel lightweight.
Spee-D Channel is available in three lengths: 2-foot sections for tight spaces and custom layouts, 4-foot sections for standard installations, and 10-foot sections for long runs with fewer joints. The variety of lengths allows you to minimize cutting and waste for any project size.
Spee-D Channel is rated for Class A (Light Duty) loads, suitable for pedestrian traffic and occasional passenger vehicle traffic. It's designed for residential driveways, patios, walkways, and light commercial applications. For areas with regular vehicle traffic or heavier loads, consider NDS Pro Series or Dura Slope channel drains.
Spee-D Channel provides versatile outlet options: a 2" spigot end outlet for direct PVC connection, 3"/4" offset end outlets for larger pipe connections, fabricated 4" bottom outlets for mid-run connections, and Spee-D Basins with single or double 3"/4" locking outlets for strategic collection points.
Spee-D Channel offers a complete fitting system: 45-degree corners, 90-degree corners, tees, and crosses—all pre-fabricated with matching grates. Couplings join channel sections, end caps seal open ends, and strainer couplings provide debris screening at inlet points. This comprehensive system handles virtually any layout.
Grate options include: standard slotted grates in gray, white, black, sand, green, and brick red; decorative botanical pattern grates; decorative wave pattern grates; cast iron botanical and wave grates for premium aesthetics; and galvanized steel grates for enhanced durability. All grates snap into place with optional screw-lock.
Spee-D Channel weighs a fraction of concrete channel drains, making handling and installation much easier. The structural foam polyolefin construction won't crack, chip, or degrade like concrete. The flying buttress design provides comparable or better anchoring in concrete, and the snap-together system speeds installation significantly.
Yes, Spee-D Channel works well for pool deck drainage. The lightweight construction is easy to work with, the decorative grate options complement pool surroundings, and the polyolefin material resists pool chemicals. The 4-inch width fits well along pool edges without being visually intrusive.
Spee-D Contour is a specialized version designed for curved installations, particularly around pool decks and landscape features. The system includes start/end section kits and middle sections that follow gentle curves while maintaining proper drainage flow. It uses the same grates and outlets as standard Spee-D Channel.
Spee-D Channel grates snap into the channel body for a secure fit during normal use. For high-traffic areas or locations where grate security is a concern, optional grate screws are available. The screws thread into molded bosses in the channel body, preventing grate removal without tools.
