NDSPop-Up Emitters

A pop-up emitter sits flush with the lawn at the end of a buried drain line. When water reaches it, as little as ~1 inch of water head (about 0.04 psi) lifts the spring-loaded cap roughly an inch and the water disperses across the surface. When flow stops, the cap drops back down and seals, keeping debris and rodents out of the pipe.

NDS pop-up emitters connect to standard 3-inch and 4-inch drain pipe and fittings. Model 420 fits 3" and 4" pipe; model 421 includes an elbow for 4" pipe; and model 430 adds an elbow plus a corrugated-pipe adapter for 3" and 4" flexible tubing.

NDS pop-up emitters disperse up to 56 GPM, which is sufficient for typical residential downspout and yard-drain discharge. For higher flows or multiple drain lines, use more than one emitter or a larger surface outlet.

Unlike an open grate, a pop-up emitter stays closed between rain events. That sealed position keeps out mulch, leaves, grass clippings, and rodents, eliminates standing water, and removes the trip hazard and unsightly opening of an exposed outlet.

Because the cap seals when dry, debris generally cannot enter the pipe, which greatly reduces clogging. In cold climates, install with positive slope so water drains fully after each event; standing water that freezes can prevent the cap from opening. Routine flushing of the drain line keeps the system clear.

Pop-up emitters are the discharge end of an NDS surface-drainage system. They pair directly with NDS Spee-D round catch basins and 3"/4" pipe, and complete the path from channel drains and catch basins out to daylight. Where you cannot grade to daylight, route the line to an NDS StormChamber infiltration system instead.
